Textural Art

Beginnings

Frustrated painting in her third year of college, Piippo wanted to make something different. She began mixing materials into her paint the way some artists use thickening mediums. Inspired by using mica powders on painted black ceramics in high school, Piippo created their first textual painting.

As she played with adding dimension to her work, Piippo started to connect them to landscapes. She referred to high points as mountains and the view as aerial, but the art can also erode with the very touch that inspired her. Some are based on real locations and others are completely new or composite places.
